This fine natural limestone was used by the Romans to build temples and public buildings throughout their empire. The Austro Hungrian empire continued to use this hard wearing stone for centuries to build cathedrals, public buildings and country estates. It can be formed into almost any architectural embellishment, and is available in large bed heights with a consistent colour and texture. It is an ideal alternative to Portland Stone, and has exceptional frost resistant properties and is suitable for paving and masonary purposes. It has recently been used in Kensington Palace Gardens to replace Portland Stone.
