The LCN 4040XP Heavy Duty Door Closer also known as the LCN 4041 Door Closer
Have you been let down by your current door closer?
Maybe your engineers are constantly being called back to site for a failing door closer that is not fit for purpose. Does your current door closer not close your fire door maybe it keeps getting broken due to heavy usage, vandalism or it slams. Do the users of the door complain the door is too heavy or they have to pull it shut when its windy or the door fails engage over a keep or latch.
The basic function of a door closer is not only just to close the door a good door closer gives you control over both the opening and closing cycles. This prevents damage to the door and injury to the people using the door meaning the door can actually last longer due to less wear.
What is Backcheck - LCN closers come with a feature called backcheck, this function is used to cushion the opening door and to reduce the force of the door hitting the stop with excessive force. This feature does not replace a door stop but helps to protect the door.
What is Latch Speed - When a door closes it should close at a consistent speed without shaking or jerking. When the door nearly reaches its closed position the closer can allow control over a function called latch speed this allows the door to close firmly over a latch or seal but without slamming. Slamming is a common problem that is one of the biggest complaints in a communal area not only does it damage the door over time it also is irritating and dangerous to users.
How LCN door Closers are Made - Did you know the 4040XP closer is made out of Cast Iron, combined with the high grade internal Steel components the closer is designed to work over millions of opening and closing cycles, not hundreds or thousands that a cheaper Aluminium closer may give. The door closers are powder coated and undergo 100 hour salt spray test which is 4 times that what is required. A lot of closers are specified with architectural plated finishes, whilst these look nice in practice powder coating lasts and protects the closer for a significant amount of time longer than any other finish.
Door Closer Mounting - The 4040XP closer is categorised as a surface mount universal door closer meaning no longer has your engineer got to specify if the door is LH or RH door. The closer can be mounted in three different ways, Hinge side mount (Pull Side) the closer is mounted on the pull side of the door with the arm attached to the frame above, Top Jamb (Push) the door closer is mounted on the push side but mounted on the frame with the arm attached to the face of the door or Parallel Arm (Push) this is where the closer is mounted on the push side of the door with the parallel arm shoe attached to the underside of the frame head.
Spring Size - this is a very important part of how a closer works, depending on the spring size this can make a door very light to open or very heavy to open. The 4040XP closer is fully adjustable from spring size 1 to 6. Out of the box the spring size is set to size 3 to adjust the spring power this is simply done by using the allen key provided and the unique numbered power gauge on the end of the closer this takes the guess work out of knowing what power the closer has been set to.
Door Closer Fluid - fluid is a very important factor in how a door closer works, just like any mechanical device, fluids can act differently depending on the ambient temperature this can mean the fluid can be thinner or thicker this is known as viscosity. When this fluid passes through the door closer and the door closer valves it can move faster or slower depending on the viscosity. An example of this can be a closer fitted in the summer and works fine and very controlled, but when winter arrives the closer starts to slow and the door fails to close without assistance your engineer attends the site and adjusts the closer and again everything works fine until the summer where the door starts to slam and again another call out is needed to adjust the closer. LCN door closer use a all weather fluid which remains stable in hot and cold weather meaning once the door closer has been installed and setup its ready to use and should need no further adjustment.
